Idea of the Week:
You know Among Us. The little game that made everyone suspicious of their friends.

But it didn’t start with success.
It started with three college friends, Marcus, Amy, and Forrest, who just loved talking about games.
In 2014, they decided to make their own studio. They called it Innersloth.
Their first game?
A fast-paced shooter inspired by Nuclear Throne.
They built it in just one year… and hated it.
Even they called it a bad version of Nuclear Throne.
So they scrapped it.
Their second game, Dig 2 China, wasn’t amazing either, but it gave them confidence. Enough to start a third game, Deity.
That one failed too.
Harsh feedback. Low downloads. Frustration.
Most people would’ve quit by then.
But not them.
Then one night, Marcus watched John Carpenter's “The Thing”, a horror movie about an alien hiding in plain sight.
He loved the idea of someone you cannot trust
So he thought, what if we made a Jackbox style mobile game where your friends have to figure out who the imposter is?
That idea became Among Us.
They started working on a simple idea inspired by the party game Mafia: where players try to outsmart and eliminate each other.
a group of crewmates trapped in space, with one imposter among them.
The first version, though, was chaotic. You had to constantly fix tasks to keep the ship together. It was too sweaty, too fast.
They reworked it, slowing the pace, adding simple goals, and giving players moments to talk, lie, and accuse.
When it launched, it flopped.
For months, the game averaged around 30 players.
Then something happened.
A Korean streamer with 90,000 subscribers played it and suddenly 10,000 people joined in.
Then came Godenot, a Brazilian streamer with over 2 million followers.
After that, Among Us spread across Twitch and YouTube like wildfire.
Three college friends. Three failed games. One viral hit that took over the internet.
Maybe that’s the real lesson here.
You don’t fail your way out of success.
You fail your way into it.
What if your next failure is just the prequel to your Among Us?.
That’s your alley dispatch for the week. Next one drops soon.
