Crypto
Let’s rewind to 2017. The crypto world was buzzing, Bitcoin was breaking headlines, and Ethereum had just proven that smart contracts were the real deal. Amid the chaos, a guy named Anatoly Yakovenko, an engineer who used to work at Qualcomm, had a wild idea.
He looked at blockchain networks and saw one big flaw: they were slow. Bitcoin could only handle a handful of transactions per second. Ethereum wasn’t much faster. If crypto was ever going to compete with Visa or Mastercard, it needed speed, lightning fast, no compromise speed.
That’s where Solana was born.
Anatoly’s breakthrough was something called Proof of History (PoH), a new way to keep time in a decentralized network. Instead of relying on every node to agree on the exact sequence of transactions, PoH gave each block a built-in timestamp. That made the blockchain blazingly fast, handling tens of thousands of transactions per second compared to Ethereum’s dozen or so at the time.
Now, Solana wasn’t based on any one coin. It wasn’t a fork of Bitcoin or Ethereum. It was built from scratch, coded in Rust, with the vision of combining decentralization and high performance. Think of it as the hardware upgrade to crypto infrastructure.
Then came the fun part: the memes.
Fast forward to 2023 to 2024, and Solana wasn’t just a network anymore, it became the meme coin factory. Remember Dogecoin and Shiba Inu? Solana gave birth to a new generation: BONK, WIF (dogwifhat), MYRO, POPCAT, all living on Solana’s lightning fast rails.
Solana almost died during the FTX collapse in 2022. Back then, SOL was deep in the trenches. People were calling it “dead chain energy.” But instead of fading out, it bounced back stronger, powered by community builders, meme culture, and a refusal to quit.
Now, in 2025, it’s the comeback king, kind of poetic for a coin that was literally built on the idea of time.

Idea of the Week:
Today’s story is about a teenager who built a timer app and got over 1 million downloads.
No coding experience.
No investor.
Just an idea.
Meet Kevin, a high school student who couldn’t focus during study sessions.
He tried every productivity app out there, Pomodoro timers, focus music, task planners, but none of them felt right.
Too many buttons. Too many features.
He just wanted something simple - a timer that helped him study without distractions.
So, during summer break, he decided to make his own.
He watched YouTube tutorials, learned the basics of app development,
and launched a minimalist timer app he called Study Bunny.
The concept was adorable.
Every time you studied, your virtual bunny earned coins.
When you slacked off, your bunny got sad.
You could use those coins to buy cute items and decorate your bunny’s world.
Simple. Emotional. Rewarding.
And that’s what made it viral.
Kevin launched Study Bunny quietly on the App Store and Google Play in 2019.
Within months, it spread through TikTok and student Reddit communities.
Students loved the idea of “studying with a bunny.”
Fast forward now, the app crossed 1 million+ downloads,
and has been featured in multiple “best productivity app” lists on YouTube and blogs.
The entire app was built by one teenager from his bedroom.
He monetized in three simple ways:
In-app ads (banner + rewarded ads)
In-app purchases (buy more coins or decorations)
Optional donation packs for users who wanted to support development
Even with a conservative $1–$2 revenue per active user per year,
he makes $5,000–$10,000/month at scale.
All from a free timer app.
Here’s what makes this so inspiring:
Kevin didn’t build something revolutionary.
He just built something that felt good to use.
He understood his audience (students).
He gamified focus.
And he added an emotional hook, the bunny.
That’s what made it stick.
Now, imagine you’re reading this and thinking,
“I don’t know how to code.”
That’s fine.
You can still build apps without coding today using vibe coding tools.
Find a daily frustration, simplify it, add a story, and publish it.
If a teenager can do it with a bunny, what’s your excuse?
Sometimes, success isn’t about being the best programmer.
It’s about being the most relatable human.
That’s your alley dispatch for the week. Next one drops soon.
