Idea of the Week: How Pinin makes $2k/month

In Bari, Italy, a boy grew up surrounded by photography. He had cameras, he had film, he had the luxury of capturing life.

But his family? They weren’t as lucky. So they couldn’t take many photos back in the day.

Professional photos were a rare expense. Most of the pictures they owned were grainy, scratched, or blurred — wedding portraits where you couldn’t recognize faces, childhood snapshots that looked like watercolor smudges, entire family gatherings reduced to faint silhouettes.

He couldn’t let that happen. So he did what any modern problem-solver would: he turned to AI. Months of training models, feeding datasets, and testing later, a tool was born. He called it Pinin.ai

The magic was immediate. You could take a phone photo of an old, damaged print, upload it, and within 20 seconds, it looked brand new.

But the real test came when he showed it to his grandmother. She saw her mother’s face, restored after decades of blur and fading. She went quiet. Then the tears came. “She’s beautiful,” she said softly. “I forgot she was so beautiful.”

That moment captured what Pinin is really about. Not just code, not just AI. But memory. Emotion. History brought back into focus.

The business model is simple. The first restoration is free. No credit cards.

Then they have a credit based system, it costs on average $2 to restore a photo.

He was not a coder, he did the whole thing using AI’s help.

If that’s not inspiring, I don’t know what is.

Pinin is a great story.

That’s your alley dispatch for the week. Next one drops soon.
